Cooperative Extension

Our Department provides advisory, analysis and expertise services to different Governmental Institutions, such as Health and Agriculture Ministries and other public agencies. Our technical staff cooperates with several food industries, mainly in chemical, biological, sensory and quality control areas.  FBA Professors have also been participating in research groups in charge of developing standards for food inspection and nutrition labeling involving different regulatory areas, such as transgenic foods, food additives, functional foods, including participation in decision-making meetings for the Codex Alimentarius.

The Department has been responsible for analyzing and updating the National Food Composition Table, which is available on the FCF website. This Table is recommended by the National Agency of Sanitary Surveillance (ANVISA) as a tool for companies to elaborate the nutritional labeling of their food products, as well as to physicians, nutritionists and other professionals.

The Professors of the Department participate in scientific organizations such as “Brazilian Society of Food Science and Technology (SBCTA)”, “Brazilian Society of Food and Nutrition (SBAN)”, ”Brazilian Society of Microbiology (SBM)” and “Brazilian Association for Food Protection (ABRAPA)”, directing and organizing scientific events. The Professors also actively participate in the projects "The Universities and the Professions" and "Courses for the 3ª Age".
