Na próxima quarta-feira, dia 13/07, o Prof. Bradley D. Olsen (http://cheme.scripts.mit.edu/olsenlab/), do Massachusetts Institute of Technology, ministrará o seminário "Bringing Biological Function Into Synthetic Materials" no Instituto de Química (IQ). O seminário será no Anfiteatro Cinza, às 14h30.

Segue abaixo o abstract do seminário:

Nature has always provided an inspiration for and source of materials used by society, but recent advances in science and technology are enabling researchers to both understand and adapt nature’s designs with unprecedented precision. This talk will discuss such efforts to engineer biological components or biological principles into the next generation of polymeric materials. Cutting-edge polymer chemistry and protein engineering are applied to synthesize new materials at the interface of biology and the physical sciences. Research into the intelligent design of such systems, investigating the relationships between molecular structure and self-assembly, draws upon concepts from block copolymer assembly and polymer gels to understand complex biohybrid materials. Our efforts are aimed at applying biological-derived and inspired polymers to dramatically extend the capabilities of soft materials such as sustainable engineering plastics, catalysts, polymer networks, and nanotechnology.
